What Does it Taste Like?

The oak honey is very dark, almost black with a rich caramel taste of low sweetness and malty notes. Its aroma is rich and transports the consumer to the semi-mountainous forests. As honeydew honey it sugars very slowly, remaining viscous for quite a long time and it tends not to crystallize easily.

Honey Facts & Benefits

Greek Oak honey is honeydew honey since it is produced by bees that collect nectar from honeydew excreted by plant-sucking insects called Marchalina hellenica.

Oak honey can also be found under one of the following names: "black honey", "honey from a tree", "meloura" and "acorn honey".

Our beekeepers move their hives to oak forests far away where bees can collect honey undisturbed and away from human pollution. It is harvested at the end of July from hives nesting in oak tree forests at Mount Ortrys.

The honey is cold extracted, unfiltered, unpasteurized, and unprocessed, ensuring its nutritional properties are preserved.

One of the reasons that Oak Honey is highly valued is its high nutritional value. It has a positive effect on fatigue, positively affecting the strength of our body. Rich in antioxidants and minerals such as potassium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, and sodium is our absolute ally for the good health of our body. In addition, it has a high content of enzymes, proteins, and vitamins that help in the metabolism and proper functioning of vital organs. An important feature that launches Oak honey's nutritional value is its high pollen grain content.

Thanks to its antimicrobial, disinfectant, and astringent properties, it soothes the flu and disorders of the intestine and urinary system. Additional research has shown that it can help treat hemorrhoids. The soothing properties that help those who have problems with insomnia, a drink with hot water, and a spoonful of honey are what you need to relax before bed.

For those who want honey with a strong character and rich characteristics, we unreservedly recommend Oak Honey.

Common Uses

Perfect for when you need something naturally sweet. Enjoy with Greek traditional yogurt, drizzled on top of cereal or simply spread on toast, pancakes, hot scones, porridge, or added to pep-up fruity dessert dishes.

Notes & Tips:

  • Storage: honey should be stored away from direct sunlight in a dry place at room temperature or below. Always ensure the lid is secured tightly.
  • Crystallization: raw honey crystallizes over time, and it is a natural process. Honey thickens and changes its state - it hardens and becomes grainy. Different types of honey crystallize differently. Some types of honey become very grainy and form larger crystals. Changes in color and structure (crystallization) are signs of raw, unpasteurized, and unprocessed honey.
  • Consistency: if you prefer softer, more liquid honey, you can gently warm it by putting the jar in hot water. Warming will liquefy the crystallized honey. Avoid exposing honey to temperatures over 45°C, because higher temperatures may destroy part of the natural nutrients. Please make sure the jar is closed correctly to ensure no water contaminates the honey.
  • Colour changes: please know that raw honey can vary in colour and taste from batch to batch - honey changes with the season and climate and depending on what the bees feed on.
  • Packaging: our honey is available in recyclable glass jars and plastic containers of various sizes. The plastic containers are made of BPA-free high-quality shatterproof plastic.
  • Safety Information: honey is inappropriate for children under the age of one year.
  • Product photos and videos are representative. Honey colour and texture may vary depending on the season and level of crystallization.
